Elm coffee tables & side tables
Coffee tables and side tables in solid elm, with real grain and character, for living rooms and bedrooms. Each listing says whether a piece is antique or made from reclaimed timber. Every piece is one of one, measured and described honestly, and delivered across mainland UK.
Choosing a coffee table
An old coffee table sits at the centre of a room and takes more daily use than almost anything else in it, so solid timber that already wears its marks well is the practical choice as well as the good-looking one.
Questions about coffee tables
What size coffee table should I choose?
A common rule of thumb is a table about two thirds the length of your sofa, at or slightly below the height of the seat (usually 40 to 45cm). Leave around 40 to 45cm between the table and the sofa so you can reach it and still walk past.
Can I use a stool as a side table?
Yes. A solid elm stool makes a good side table beside a sofa or bed, and it moves around the house as you need it. Look for a top that is wide and flat enough to take a cup or a lamp.
Will an old coffee table mark?
Old timber already carries rings, dents and wear, so new marks blend in rather than ruin it. Use coasters under hot or wet things, wipe spills straight away, and wax the top once or twice a year.
Antique or reclaimed: which is right for me?
An antique table is the original object, with its own history. A reclaimed one is newly made from old timber, so it often comes in more practical sizes. Each listing says which it is.
